Hands On Assignment 2

 Media is the means by which something is communicated. Thus, social media would be the communication through technological social outlets. Networking via social media can be done in numerous ways with all of the resources available to us today. Social networking apps, websites, chatrooms, etc. allow people from all over the world to communicate, share knowledge, share ideas and opinions, and so on. 

Currently, I use Snapchat, Instagram, LinkedIn, and Pinterest. I use Snapchat and Instagram for similar reasons, including sharing experiences with friends, families, and other acquaintances. I typically only follow and stay connected with those I know, or who I once knew but am not close with anymore. LinkedIn is what I use for professional networking. Pinterest allows me to gain insight on art, specifically nail art, hair inspiration, birthday party themes, room decor, and others alike. Snapchat and Instagram are used daily, while LinkedIn and Pinterest are used more sporadically. 

Majority of the time, when I use social media, it is to keep up with friends and family who I don't see every day. I like seeing memorable pictures and experiences of those around me. Sometimes it gives me ideas on how to create new experiences for myself. I feel happy and excited when others share what makes them feel happy and excited. The same goes for sadness or fear. Pertaining to the world, I appreciate that social media keeps me well-informed, for the most part, about current events. Because I do not watch the news daily, I rely largely on my social apps for up to date information. Sometimes what people post is biased. However, one of the most important benefits of social media is that everyone can speak for themselves. This creates a sense of originality, which I see as an important factor in one's self identity. I am aware that the community I choose to surround myself with on Snapchat and Instagram is not 100% reality. I am okay with that.
